Adoption Policy

Adopting a rescue cat or kitten gives an abandoned animal a second chance of a happy and healthy life. If you are thinking of adopting a cat or kitten from Cat’s Guidance you need to be aware of our adoption policy and guidelines, which are as follows:

We always do a home check to ensure that the environment and location is suitable. Our visit is not intrusive, but we do need to see where the cat will be living.

We do not rehome outdoor cats to houses on very busy main roads. All our cats, unless specified as house cats, need access to a safe outside space.

We always aim to match the right cat to the right home, so please do not be offended if we suggest the cat you are interested in would not be a suitable match to your environment or circumstances.

All our rescue cats will be neutered, fully vaccinated, micro-chipped and treated for flea and worms. Our adoption fee is £95 per cat, preferably payable by bank transfer prior to adoption. If you can afford to donate more, it will be greatly appreciated. Taking out pet insurance for your newly adopted cat is strongly recommended.

Kittens will be rehomed in pairs (or more) unless the household has an existing cat.

Many of the cats we take in are strays and their history is unknown. The estimate of the cats age is in line with what the vets recommend, unless we have previous ownership history.

Please allow time for your rescue cat to settle into its new environment. This can take anything between a few hours to a few months. If you have concerns, please contact us.

Please ensure the cat remains indoors for at least 8 weeks once adopted, this will allow time for the cat to adjust to its new surroundings. Keeping cats indoors after dark is also recommended.

We reserve the right to refuse to re-home an animal. Placing cats with adopters is entirely at our discretion. Please do not be offended if we find your circumstances unsuitable for having a cat - or the cat you have chosen.

If for any reason the re-homing does not work out, the cat must be returned back to Cats Guidance and not surrendered to another person or sold on to another party.
